Chris Burton

Where are you from?

Kansas City, MO

Complete Legal role:

Director of Client Services and Consulting

How did you get into this line of work? What keeps you in it?

I am a licensed attorney in both Kansas and Missouri, and began my career in private practice. I fell into eDiscovery — first in document review before transitioning to project management. Being able to work on a variety of matters and people, while in a constantly changing area of law, makes every day interesting.

When did you begin working at Complete Legal?

I started at Complete Legal in September of 2022.

What do you consider your expertise?

As a licensed attorney with over a decade of experience in the legal industry, I enjoy the challenge of keeping in front of the industry, which is constantly changing and evolving to better suit the needs of clients.

I’m passionate about creating and reviewing ESI protocols, developing custom workflows for complex litigation, and providing attorneys with unique insight to ensure eDiscovery success.

How can you help corporate legal departments / law firms?

I can best help with educating attorneys and legal departments on eDiscovery best practices from start to finish, with the goal of streamlining workflows, reducing costs, and advocating for their clients.

What have been some of your biggest professional achievements?

I helped create a mobile workflow within Relativity and presented the idea at Relativity Fest 2017.

Developing a new data reuse workflow to leverage already collected and reviewed data to reduce the data footprint and cost for a large multinational corporation.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Sport Science and then received my JD from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

What fulfills you outside of work?

Spending time with my friends and family, cooking, and coaching basketball.

What is something you are currently learning?

I’m always learning and keeping up with the changes in technology and the law as it relates to eDiscovery. Outside of the legal industry, I’m also always learning and trying out new cooking techniques.

Favorite sports team?

It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m huge fan of KU, Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC, and the Current.

Favorite thing to do in your city?

Try new restaurants. KC is way more than BBQ — though that is excellent, too.

Little known/fun fact about you?

I was a part of two Guinness World Records in (very) large groups. 1 – Loudest Crowd Roar at an indoor sports event (Allen Fieldhouse in 2017) and 2 – Loudest Crowd Roar at a sports stadium (Arrowhead Stadium in 2014.)
